What is regret? It’s not accepting the fact that you are a human being and that you can make mistakes. Yes, there are things you and I would do differently, given the chance, but let me ask you this – did you make the best decision that you could make at the time, given what you knew then? If so, could you still blame yourself for what you did wrong?
We get ourselves in trouble when we allow these could haves, would haves and should haves wreck our life today. Not on purpose, obviously – who in their right mind would do that? But somewhere, at the back of your mind, there it is, eating away at you… You would never, under any circumstances, treat someone in this way, and yet we do this willingly to ourselves?! This is the reason why we need to pull back the curtains on our past so we can live forward, with clear conscience and without looking back.
